2019 Ribolla Gialla

Starting in 2018, we got the opportunity to work with a new planting of Ribolla Gialla. This is a small 3 acre site of Ribolla and Zinfandel planted in Dry Creek Valley. The soil consists of decomposed sandstone on a north and west facing hilltop at the south end of Dry Creek Valley. This site shows more density and concentration in the fruit compared to the subtler nervy expression of Napa’s Vare vineyard.

Vinification

The grapes were picked at the end of September, fully destemmed and fermented in amphorae. These were sealed after fermentation and macerated for a further 6 months before being pressed in the spring. The wine was then aged in amphora until January of 2021. 101 cases produced.

Tasting Notes

Spicy aromas of cinnamon, ginger and saffron surround the core of persimmon and pear. The palate is dense and mouth filling with an intense core of fruit framed by a smooth but persistent structure.
